# Opetation

## Pre-ride Inspection

Inspect your motorcycle every day before you ride it. The items listed here will only take a few minutes to inspect, and in the long run they can save time, expense, and possibly your life.

1. Engine oil level — add engine oil if required [\[see page\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/03/05). Check for leaks.
2. Fuel level — fill fuel tank when necessary [\[see page and scroll\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/03/04#fuel-tank). Check for leaks.
3. Coolant level — add coolant if required [\[see page\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/03/03). Check for leaks.
4. Front and rear brakes — check operation; make sure there is no brake fluid leakage [\[see page\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/03/01).
5. Tyres — check condition and pressure [\[see page\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/03/06).
6. Drive chain —check condition and slack [\[see page\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/07/12). Adjust and lubricate if necessary.
7. Throttle — check for smooth opening and full closing in all steering positions.
8. Lights and horn — check that headlight, tail/brake light, turn signals, indicators and horn function properly.

10. Battery electrolyte — check the level and add if necessary [\[see page\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/07/17).
11. Side stand ignition cut-off system — check for proper function [\[see page\]](https://xl400v.gitbook.io/honda-transalp/owners-manual/07/14).

Correct any discrepancy before you ride. Contact your authorized Honda dealer for assistance if you cannot correct the problem.
